Police: Bronx Man Strangled after Sword Attack

WATERBURY, Conn. (AP)  -- Police say a man wielding a samurai sword was strangled after he attacked his estranged wife and pregnant daughter, slicing them on the head and arms.

Police say Joseph Bodi of the Bronx, N.Y., assaulted his wife while they lived in New York. The 30-year-old woman, whom police did not identify, fled to Waterbury to stay with her stepdaughter and her stepdaughter's husband.

Bodi arrived at the apartment Sunday, armed with a knife. Police say he confronted his wife and grabbed a samurai sword on the wall. Police say he sliced her on the top of the head and was confronted by his daughter and her husband, who tried to wrestle the sword from him.

A police spokesman says it appears the 53-year-old Bodi was suffocated. He was taken to Waterbury Hospital where he died.

The chief medical examiner's office said the cause and manner of Bodi's death will be issued on Tuesday.
