LONG ISLAND (1010 WINS) -- The controversial plan to publish the names and photos of drunk driving suspects didn't end in the days after Memorial Day.
Nassau police and County Executive Tom Suozzi plan to resume and beef up the campaign this weekend.
A new unit, the DWI Impact Team, was created to patrol what police consider hot spots for drunken driving, Nassau Police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey said. Intoxicated boaters would also be targeted by the unit.
Police will again provide the media with the names and photographs of anyone charged with DWI, Mulvey said.
81 people were charged over the Memorial Day holiday. Their names and photos appeared in several papers and websites, including 1010WINS.com.
Suozzi spokeswoman Jennifer Kim told Newsday the county's plan is to continue releasing the personal information of people charged with driving drunk, part of an "ongoing initiative" with new photos released to the media every Monday.
