One Worker Killed, One Injured at Queens Car Wash

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/AP)  -- An employee at a car wash on Sunrise Highway in the Rosedale section of Queens is dead and police are searching for another employee who they say ran him over.

It happened Thursday morning after one car-wash employee got behind the wheel of an SUV and struck two other employees, police said.

One of the workers, 48-year-old Felipe Alvarenga, was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital, police said.

The second employee is in stable condition at a hospital.

The driver of the SUV fled the scene after striking the men, returned to the scene then fled again, winesses said. Investigators discovered the SUV a few blocks from the car wash.

People who know the driver said they think he just panicked. Police were investigating.
