TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- State health officials say a New Jersey woman was infected with salmonella linked to tainted tomatoes.
The case is believed to be the first in the Garden State linked to an outbreak that has sickened at least 380 people nationwide.
Health and Senior Services Department spokeswoman Marilyn Riley says the 34-year-old Camden County resident sought medical treatment in early June at a Philadelphia hospital.
Riley didn't have any information on the woman's present condition.
The case was first reported on The Star-Ledger of Newark's Web site.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration continues to urge consumers nationwide to avoid raw red plum, red Roma or red round tomatoes. The agency has cleared tomatoes grown in New Jersey.
Salmonella causes diarrhea and abdominal pain. Most people recover within a week without treatment.
