NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Business owners along the Second Avenue construction zone say they are in danger of closing.
The Second Avenue Business Association says the stores from 91st to 96th streets are in dire financial condition because of lost business due to the construction of the new subway.
Six stores have closed and another six are in immediate jeopardy, the association says.
The construction work, association officials say, has caused business entrances to be blocked and created an impossible-to-navigate and ever-changing path through the area.
There is also a lack of parking, an inability for businesses to receive deliveries, a loss of foot traffic and telephone outages, they say.
The business owners support the subway's construction, the association says, but are seeking economic relief from the state before the legislative session ends on June 23.
