Fireworks Show on Long Island Ends in Arrest

SMITHTOWN, N.Y. (1010 WINS)  -- Police say a Long Island man was setting off unlicensed fireworks for a crowd — and storing them in the garage next to gasoline.

Suffolk County police say Thomas Egan, of East Northport, was setting off fireworks in front of 50 people at his brother-in-law's house in Smithtown on Friday.

Police shut down the display and seized about $2,500 worth of fireworks. The officers reported that the fireworks were stored in the garage next to two cans filled with gas.

The 42-year-old Egan was charged with possession of explosives without a license and reckless endangerment.
