NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- While the city handed out 60,000 free tickets for the Bon Jovi concert at Central Park on Saturday, only 50,000 people will be allowed on the Great Lawn.
Alice Stockton-Rossini reports
City officials believe 15 percent of those with tickets won't show up for the concert.
If the crowd exceeds 50,000 people, the overflow crowd will be shuffled to nearby areas where they can hear the concert but won't be able to see the stage.
Police are expecting fans to start lining up for the concert as early as Thursday night. The number of people in line is expected to swell Friday night and into Saturday.
The concert area does not open until 2 p.m. on Saturday, which is six hours before the concert.
All tickets will be scanned much like they are at other New York venues, but no decision has been made if there will be metal detectors.
Police will also be on the watch for those who try to cut the line.
The concert is part of the events leading up to the annual Major League Baseball All Star Game on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium.
