NEW YORK (AP) -- The Museum of Modern Art in New York has acquired a series of three paintings by Jasper Johns, which had been in the artist's private collection.
The works, Tantric Detail I, Tantric Detail II and Tantric Detail III, feature Johns' signature cross hatch pattern.
With the acquisition, the museum said Friday it now owns 19 works by the living American artist.
They were purchased as a promised gift by a MoMA trustee and the museum's board president and her husband. The price was not disclosed.
