Police Arrest Suspect for Brooklyn Hit & Run

NEW YORK (AP)  -- Police arrested a Brooklyn man Sunday night in connection with a hit-and-run car accident that left a 9-year-old girl critically injured.

Sonia Rincon reports

The mother of Nacirema Brown says her daughter is in a medically induced coma at Brookdale Medical Center. Dakema Brown says the girl has a fractured skull, bleeding on the brain and is "not breathing on her own.'' She says doctors have given her daughter a 50 percent chance of survival.

Police say a car struck the girl Saturday evening as she crossed Rockaway Avenue at Glenmore Avenue in Brooklyn. They say the vehicle then drove off.

Police have charged 41-year-old Jerry J. Coleman with leaving the scene of an accident.
