3-Alarm Fire in Leonia Leaves Homeowner Dead

LEONIA, N.J. (1010 WINS)  -- Officials don't yet know what caused a fast-moving blaze that killed a popular bakery owner in his Leonia home.

Steve Sandberg reports:

Forty-eight-year-old Hirokazu Sano was pulled from his one-story ranch house early Wednesday by firefighters who tried unsuccessfully to revive him.

The Record of Bergen County said several agencies are investigating the blaze, which broke out shortly before 5 a.m. One official told the newspaper that it did not appear to be suspicious.

Neighbors said that Sano's wife and two high-school age children were on vacation in his native Japan.

Sano has co-owned the Parisienne Bakery in Fort Lee for 20 years, where he is being fondly remembered by regulars.
