Blaze Consumes Top Floor of NYC Apartment Building

NEW YORK (AP)  -- Twenty-two New York City firefighters and three civilians were injured in a blaze that consumed the top floor of a Brooklyn apartment building.

Sonia Rincon reports:

Fire officials say at least four firefighters were seriously hurt, but their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The three civilians were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The blaze began at the building at 57 Lincoln Road in Flatbush just before 6 p.m. Friday in the space between the building's roof and the ceiling of the top floor.

The fire spread to the entire sixth floor of the building in an hour, spewing smoke throughout the neighborhood. It was brought under control at around 8:15 p.m.

The Fire Department says about 250 firefighters were sent to the scene.
