Dogs, Cats Killed in Stony Brook House Fire

NEW YORK (1010 WINS)  -- Seven dogs and 3 cats were killed in a fire that swept through a home in Stony Brook, Long Island Tuesday night.

Mona Rivera reports

The homeowner, Dori Scofield, is the founder of the Port Jefferson Station animal rescue group Save-A-Pet.

Police said Scofield and her husband, Gary, were not home at the time of the fire, which remains under investigation.

Investigators have not said what caused the fire although Scofield says she's been told it was electrical.

Firefighters were able to save four miniature horses, rabbits and two other cats.

"I always try to help people in these situations. I never thought I'd find myself in it,'' Scofield said.
