Brooklyn Video Store Owner Shot to Death

NEW YORK (1010 WINS)  -- The owner of a Brooklyn video store has been shot and killed during a possible attempted robbery.

Police are investigating the killing of 55-year-old Steven Howard in the Brownsville neighborhood. They say he was shot once in the torso about noon Wednesday inside his shop on Lott Avenue.

Paramedics responding to a 911 call of a male shot found him dead on the floor of the shop he called the Whole Nine Yards.

Family members say Howard converted to Islam 30 years ago and legally changed his name to El-Hajj Kareem Shabazz.

Residents say Shabazz had a reputation for working in the community _ and even let customers borrow movies even when they had no money to pay for them.
