SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) -- A lawyer for a woman whose 100-year-old mother was fatally shot in her Long Island home says the daughter is cooperating with investigators.
Southampton lawyer Colin Patrick Astarita says 76-year-old Margaret Jean Burke has voluntarily given the clothes she wore on Sunday to Suffolk County investigators to test. She has been questioned at length by detectives about her mother's death.
The retired correction officer has also allowed police to search her car as well as the North Haven home she has shared with her 100-year-old mother, Jessie Burke, since 1991.
The mother was fatally shot in the head Sunday as she sat in a chair. No arrests have been made.
Margaret Jean Burke's lawyer says she has also allowed police to swab her hands to look for traces of gunpowder residue.
