Police Hunt Manhattan Granny Mugger

NEW YORK (1010 WINS)  -- An 83-year-old deaf woman says she fought off a would-be mugger who put her in a choke hold and threw her to the ground as she got off the elevator at her Manhattan apartment building.

Police say the suspect was caught on a building surveillance camera and hope the public can identify him.

Kathleen Maloney reports:

Elsie Barretto says her attacker followed her into the East 94th Street building as she returned from grocery shopping. She says he assaulted her as she got off the elevator on her floor — but that she fought back.

The man fled when he heard someone coming. Barretto was left with a black eye and broken dentures.

She says she told police that if they find her assailant to bring him back to her so she can "punch him and ask why he did that." Police say Wednesday's assault remains under investigation.
