Tenants Claim Harassment by Landlord

NEW YORK (1010 WINS)  -- Residents of a Brooklyn apartment building are suing their landlord under a new tenant protection law.

Tenants at 64 Troutman are claiming they are receiving threatening phone calls, having their heat and hot water turned off and even claims of dead cats left in the building.

"They came in and starting tearing down every apartment that was vacant, leaving dust, dirt and garbage," tenant Daisy Terry complains.

A new law, the "Tenant Protection Act", forbids the type of harassment the people of the Bushwick building are alleging. City Council Speaker, Christine Quinn says a group of landlords have filed suit against the city appealing the law.

"They should drop this lawsuit and stop additionally harassing tenants by threatening the future of this law, Quinn said.

The landlord of the building is listed as Heskel One LLC.
