NEW YORK (AP) -- Can't rain on this New York City parade: It's too short!
Organizers say a six-block parade after the Cornell-Columbia football game this Saturday is the city's shortest.
The parade celebrates its 34th year by strutting down Manhattan's Fifth Avenue, from the steps of St. Patrick's Cathedral at 50th Street to the Cornell Club on 44th Street. When it began in the 1970s it was just one block.
By comparison, Tuesday's Veterans Day parade stretched more than 30 blocks and last summer's gay pride parade was more than 50.
The short parade was created by 1931 Cornell graduate Seymour ``Sy'' Katz to celebrate his university's marching band. This year's Sy Katz '31 Parade may last only 12 minutes, but it'll feature Cornell's Big Red Marching Band, cheerleaders and Gov. David Paterson as grand marshal.
