NEW YORK -- Pedestrians in Manhattan's Central Park and Prospect Park in Brooklyn are going to have several extra hours without cars every day this summer.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the plan starts June 5 through mid-November. Vehicles will no longer be allowed to use Central Park's East Drive north of 72nd Street in the morning or the West Drive in the afternoon, or Prospect Park's West Drive in the morning.
“Thanks to a partnership between the City and the Central Park Conservancy and Prospect Park Alliance, these two parks have improved tremendously over the last 25 years, and Park visitation is up dramatically. These new traffic hours will improve quality of life and safety for all park visitors,” said Commissioner Adrian Benepe.
