Police say 33-year-old Rajinder Singh was able to run from the overturned cab and was taken to University Hospital by a passing motorist.
Turnpike spokesman Joe Orlando said the truck crashed at about 3 p.m. Thursday as it was exiting the northbound turnpike at Exit 16W.
Smoke from the fire was visible from as far south as Woodbridge. The crash snarled rush-hour traffic on the northbound turnpike, and the ramp remained closed into the evening as highway workers cleared the wreckage and checked the road surface for possible damage.
