Celebrity Jurors Honored at Manhattan State Supreme Court

NEW YORK (AP)  -- Juror Appreciation Day turned into a courthouse dance party when singer Neil Sedaka began swinging news anchor Katie Couric to the rhythms of Johnny Colon's salsa combo.

They were among former jurors honored in a ceremony Thursday in Manhattan's state Supreme Court building along with actors Uma Thurman, Nathan Lane, Ed Burns and Kathleen Turner and fashion designer Vera Wang.

They were there to testify that jury duty is a privilege, an honor and usually surprisingly educational and interesting.

Lane told the audience he had learned, "The Revolutionary War was fought so you could serve jury duty. This I didn't know.''

Couric said her favorite line about jury duty was by former juror and sex expert Dr. Ruth Westheimer: "It's a great way to pick up guys.''
