Wrong-Way Driver Ends Up Finding Peekskill Cop

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. (AP)  -- Police say an officer trying to find a wrong-way driver had to bail out of his cruiser when he saw her coming right at him on a cramped overpass in Westchester County.

Peekskill Police Detective Sgt. Eric Johansen says Officer Don Halmy had learned of a driver going north in the southbound lane of Route 9 early Thursday. Halmy spotted the driver while on an overpass with a concrete barrier between the two lanes and no shoulder.

Johansen says Halmy turned on his flashing lights and siren and got out of the car, fearful of being hit head-on. However, the other driver stopped in time.

Johansen says Lindsay Frankum of Ridgefield, Conn., failed sobriety tests and was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated. She was released on $100 bail.
