GLEN COVE, N.Y. (AP) -- Teachers at a Long Island school have planted a dogwood tree on the grounds as a living memorial to their slain colleague, Leah Walsh.
Ellenmorris Tiegerman, executive director of The School for Language and Communication Development in Glen Cove, said the 29-year-old teacher's ``spirit will be here forever with us.''
The Bethpage resident taught autistic children. Her body was found Oct. 29 near a Long Island Expressway service road, two days after her husband, William Walsh Jr., reported her missing. He has been charged with her murder.
Teacher's assistant Karen Truzzolino said Walsh ``will always be missed and she will never be forgotten.''
Walsh's mother, Mattie Hirschel, took part in the tree planting ceremony and called it ``a beautiful tribute'' to her daughter.
