New Meadowlands Stadium Ahead of Schedule
|
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- The builders of the new stadium for the New York Giants and Jets football teams say construction on the
$1.6 billion facility is ahead of schedule and under budget.
Work is about 60 percent complete on the building, which is scheduled to open for the 2010 season.
Team executives, who conducted a media tour yesterday, say the emphasis will be on fan comfort and high technology.
The stadium will have wider concourses, three times as many concession stands and 30 percent more restrooms than the current Giants Stadium.
There will be four jumbo high-def video replay screens and more than 2,000 TV screens and individual monitors spread throughout the stadium.
A bar code scanning system will let fans buy a souvenir or a hot dog without ever having to open their wallets.
