Summerhill, N.Y. Man Admits Reckless Hunting Death of Nephew

AUBURN, N.Y. (AP)  -- A 50-year-old upstate New York man will spend six months in jail for accidentally shooting his nephew while they were illegally hunting deer last fall.

Michael Hall of Summerhill will also spend five years on probation after admitting he was responsible for killing 33-year-old Ricky Huffman of Cortland last November.

Hall pleaded guilty Thursday in Cayuga County Court to manslaughter and will be sentenced Jan. 15.

Jeanette Littlehall -- the victim's mother and Hall's sister -- was critical of the plea bargain, saying it is a small price to pay for killing someone.

Hall said he and his nephew became separated while hunting and he admitted he recklessly pulled the trigger before realizing it was Huffman, who was supposed to stay at a tree stand.
