GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) -- Greenwich officials say Regis Philbin's insurance company will pay $2,700 for damage the celebrity caused when he backed his SUV into a town police car after attending a party and dining.
The police car was out of service for nearly two weeks after the Nov. 12 accident while the town repaired the minor damage.
Philbin, who has a home in Greenwich, discussed the accident the morning after on his ABC television show, "Live with Regis and Kelly.'' He said he was embarrassed by the mishap.
He said he was backing up slowly and carefully because he could not see past a large SUV parked next to him when he hit the cruiser.
No one was injured. Police gave Philbin a written warning.
