New NYC Shelter Begs for Santa Paws

NEW YORK (AP)  -- The New York City agency that cares for homeless animals is begging for a visit from Santa Paws.

Animal Care & Control will launch a holiday donation drive on Monday. Suggested gifts: a can of dog or cat food; a new or gently used dog toy; a blanket or a towel.

Director Richard Gentles asks that, ``In the spirit of holiday giving, people take a look through their pantries and closets to see if there is anything they are no longer using that would provide much needed warmth and comfort.''

Drop-off locations will be set up around the city.

The agency is also hoping for the biggest gift of all: new homes for the pets. Adoption fees start at $25.
