Bloomberg's Administration Proposes Ideas for Federal Economic Recovery
NEW YORK (AP) -- A letter sent to New York's congressional delegation shows Mayor Michael Bloomberg's administration is lobbying for direct aid and other assistance from the federal economic stimulus package.
Bloomberg's administration outlined its concerns and requests in an 18-page document sent to the delegation on Monday as Congress works to develop the enormous aid plan. The letter was obtained by The Associated Press.
It notes that growing budget deficits and a troubling economic slowdown in the nation's largest city have an effect on the nation's economy.
The administration didn't put a number on how much aid the city wants. Unlike many of the wish lists being prepared by states and municipalities nationwide, the memo doesn't lay out many dollar amounts. Instead, if offers suggestions on ways funding can be directed and best used by cities.
