MIDDLE ISLAND, N.Y. (AP) -- A Long Island ambulance driver has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty after police say he fatally stabbed his family's pit bull.
Suffolk County police say 36-year-old Lamont Yarborough stabbed Buster multiple times in the family's home in Middle Island. Police and officers from the Suffolk Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals were called to the home Tuesday morning.
Yarborough is a driver for a private ambulance company. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip and was released without bail.
Defense attorney Michael Brown says Yarborough was defending himself and his 8-year-old son from the dog, which he describes as a ``vicious animal.''
