Freight Train Derailment Affects LIRR, Service Restored

NEW YORK (AP)  -- Long Island Rail Road service between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma has been restored following the derailment of a freight train.

The railroad says the derailment occurred at 9:10 a.m. Thursday east of Deer Park when a New York & Atlantic Railway train went off the tracks.

LIRR says service was out for about one hour. There could still be some westbound delays.

Paul Victor, a spokesman for New York & Atlantic, says no one was injured.

New York & Atlantic Railway leases the use of the tracks from the LIRR. It is a subsidiary of Anacostia & Pacific Company.
