Cops: West Haverstraw Man Put Nails in Driveways

HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. (AP)  -- A 60-year-old man has been causing flat tires for two years by tossing roofing nails onto the driveways of people he didn't like, police said Thursday.

Michael Delisio of West Haverstraw has been charged with harassment, criminal tampering and mischief, said Stony Point police Lt. Peter Quinn.

He said Delisio allegedly went so far as to paint the nails black so they would blend in with the pavement.

``I've seen this periodically but never with this type of consistency, ever,'' Quinn said. ``This man was definitely on a mission.''

Victims in Stony Point and Haverstraw, including an auto body shop, had made more than 40 complaints since 2006, Quinn said. Police would not provide details of the disputes.

The lieutenant said Delisio was arrested Tuesday after an officer staking out one victim's home saw nails being thrown from Delisio's car.

It was not clear if Delisio has a lawyer; messages left at Stony Point Justice Court, where he was arraigned, and at Delisio's home were not immediately returned.
