Plainfield Teen Being Held in Fatal Beating

NEWARK, N.J. (AP)  -- Authorities have arrested a 17-year-old Plainfield resident on charges stemming from the 2007 beating death of a Guatemalan immigrant.

The teen is held in Union County's juvenile detention center. His name was not released because of his age.

The arrest brings the number of Plainfield residents facing murder, robbery and bias charges to five. Three of the other suspects are the teen's brothers.

Police say Lazaro Tista was attacked as he walked to his North Plainfield home because he was Latino.

A spokesman for the Union County Prosecutor's Office says no decision has been made on whether the 17-year-old will be charged as an adult.
