Elmont Mother Charged in Shaken Baby Case

ELMONT, N.Y. (AP)  -- A suburban New York City mother is accused of violently shaking her infant daughter and causing her serious internal head injuries.

Anna Candanedo, of Elmont, Long Island, is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday on reckless assault of a child. The Nassau County district attorney's office did not immediately know if she had an attorney.

The incident occurred Wednesday while the mother was home with her 8-month-old twins, a girl and boy.

Police say she called 911 and the baby was taken to a hospital. The infant is listed in critical condition.

The baby's twin brother has been placed in temporary custody of Child Protective Services.
