Brooklyn Teacher Accused of IM'ing 'Teenage Girl' for Sex

NEW YORK (AP) -- A New York City public high school teacher has been charged with allegedly instant messaging a 14-year-old girl he met online to have sex with him.

Queens prosecutors say the 14-year-old girl was actually a male vice squad detective.

Investigators say 26-year-old Alexander Kravitz sent sexual instant messages and two sexually explicit videos of himself.

Police arrested Kravitz Wednesday at a motel in Queens where they say he had arranged to meet the teenager for sex.

He was charged Thursday with attempted rape, attempted criminal sexual act, attempted dissemination of indecent material to minors and attempted endangering the welfare of a child.

Kravitz hooked up with the undercover detective on the Internet, and for about a month-and-a-half, said that he wanted to make porno movies with the "teen" and wanted to have sex with her, according to Sgt. Robert Minca.

After his arrest, detectives went to his home and seized his computer. Minca said it had pornography on it ranging from images of sex with infants, to 13-year-old children.

Kravitz lived at home with his mother and sister. Kravitz was a tenured auto mechanics teacher at Grady Career and Technical Education H.S. in Brighton Beach. The Dept. of Education says he has now been reassigned and will not work with kids again.

Kravitz faces up to four years in prison if convicted. He is being held on a $75,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court again on Jan. 22, 2009. Prosecutors say he has yet to hire an attorney.
