Gather Your Christmas Trees: NYC Mulchfest Is Here
NEW YORK (AP) -- Mulch mania is upon us!
Stan Brooks reports
The New York City Parks Department has chippers ready this weekend for recycling Christmas trees.
First Deputy Commissioner Liam Kavanaugh says that, over the years, trees up to 10 feet high have arrived at "Mulchfest'' locations in cars, towed by bicycles and carried in "little red wagons.''
Or try a sled, given the forecast.
"We do believe there are some people who take buses and subways,'' said Kavanaugh. "Bagging and dragging is very popular.'' Afraid of a needle trail? "That's OK. It's biodegradable.''
Can't make it to Mulchfest? Sanitation will pick it up for recycling.
Last year, New York City recycled some 160,000 Christmas trees.
