Hudson County Baby's Death No Longer Considered 'Suspicious'

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP)  -- The death of an infant in Hudson County this weekend is no longer considered suspicious.

Preliminary results from an autopsy performed Sunday showed the 9-day-old boy died of natural causes.

And no signs of trauma were found on his body.

Authorities launched an investigation after the infant died while en route to Jersey City Medical Center on Saturday afternoon, shortly after his mother called 911 to report that he was having trouble breathing.

County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said his office wanted to determine if the child's 21-year-old mother waited too long before calling for help.

``It looks like a tragic situation,'' DeFazio told The Jersey Journal of Jersey City.

He said investigators believe the mother tried calling relatives for advice before she called 911, and also tried to revive the baby before the ambulance arrived.
