Flu Apparently Caused 2nd Long Island Child's Death

WOODMERE, N.Y. (AP)  -- Health officials say it appears that the flu has caused the death of a second Long Island child this season.

The Nassau County Department of Health said Monday that the initial finding of Influenza A was made by the medical examiner in the death a 9-year-old Woodmere student.

Conclusive laboratory test results are expected later this week.

The first death due to the flu was confirmed in a 10-year-old Levittown child last month.

Flu symptoms include fever, headache, muscle aches, weakness, runny rose, sore throat and cough, and occasionally vomiting and diarrhea in children.
