In the past, repairing a torn rotator cuff or ACL required general anesthesia, a hospital stay, and weeks of immobility. Athletes were out for months, and businesspeople took serious time off. Patients often delayed the procedure, thereby exacerbating the problem. No longer. Patients of Dr. Glashow, a sports medicine orthopaedic surgeon frequently forgo extended downtime. Often “The earlier you fix it, the better,” says Glashow, who’s been named to the New York Super Doctors list.
Glashow, who exclusively repairs knee and shoulder injuries is celebrated for his skill in arthroscopic surgery and minimally invasive techniques including “no incision all inside” ACL surgery and all arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. Arthroscopy utilizes a high tech camera and fiberoptics to look inside the joint without requiring major incision.
Because injuries are unique, Glashow customizes his approach. “I do the surgery, and I do the follow-up,” he says, “I have a close relationship with physical therapists, athletic trainers and coaches, who follow my protocol.”
Patients swiftly return to their lives, careers, and workout program. “It is a very efficient way to treat the problem for someone who values their health,” he says. “It is an exciting time in sports medicine.”
