Thousands Ride in Annual Five Boro Bike Tour

NEW YORK (1010 WINS)  -- Thousands of bicyclists are touring New York City streets Sunday.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Five Boro Bike Tour. It was founded in 1977 with just 250 participants.
Organizers say more than 31,000 cyclists and 1,500 volunteers are participating in today's event.

The tour starts in Battery Park in Lower Manhattan. It then rides north to Central Park, on to Harlem and the Bronx.

The cyclists next go south along the East River on the FDR Drive. They cross to Queens and then Brooklyn, taking over the highway.

Finally, cyclists will breeze right over the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, ending on Staten Island.

Riders take the ferry back to Manhattan.

If you're not on two wheels, keep it locked to 1010 WINS Traffic Reports to find out how to get around the numerous road closures.
