LI Cop Sues over Workload During Pregnancy

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP)  -- A Suffolk County parks police officer is suing because her department wouldn't put her on light duty while she was pregnant.

A trial is scheduled to begin Monday in the lawsuit filed by officer Tara Germain.

She says her department's practice of requiring officers to either work their regular duties while pregnant or take time off violates her civil rights.

An attorney for the county says no discrimination occurred.

She says the county's policy is legal and Germain should have used sick time or vacation days if she wasn't capable of working.
