Nine Injured in Car Crash Near Times Square Movie Set
NEW YORK (1010 WINS/AP) -- Another near disaster took place Wednesday near the set of the new Nicholas Cage film being shot in the Times Square area.
Carol D'Auria reports
A total of nine people were struck when a SUV jumped a curb close to the filming location -- near the intersection of 50th Street and 7th Avenue -- just after 3 a.m. No one was seriously injured.
The SUV, which was not involved in the film, attempted to avoid a cab, jumped the curb, and landed on the sidewalk.
The SUV's driver, Laura Conti, told reporters the accident happened when she tried to avoid hitting the cab and instead struck a parked car.
Some of the victims were members of the production crew for the movie "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" being shot near Times Square. The film had already finished shooting for the night at the time of the accident.
Police said reports the accident actually occurred on the set of the film were erroneous.
No charges were filed against the driver.
Two nights ago a Ferrari crashed into a restaurant blocks away from Wednesday's accident during a chase scene for "The Sorcerer's Apprentice.'' Two people suffered minor injuries.
The two incidents have led some to say the production is "cursed."
