NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A sweet sixteen party in Staten Island ended in tragedy Sunday morning when four teens were struck by a speeding car, cops and witnesses said.
Two of the girls, ages 14 and 16 - were in critical condition with head trauma.
Both were taken to St. Vincent's Hospital in Staten Island
Two other victims were taken to Staten Island University Hospital in stable condition.
A local resident on the street told the New York Post she had heard the teens yelling as they partied on the street in front of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Minutes later, she heard a loud crash.
"When I saw them running I went to the person in charge to see if he could tell them to calm down… I heard a thud. I think one of the girls was carrying balloons - I heard them burst when she was hit," she said.
Police are questioning the driver. No charges have been filed.
The investigation is ongoing.
