BBQ Restaurant, Neighbors Face Off in a Battle of the Smells

NEW YORK (AP)  -- The owner of Smokin' Al's barbecue restaurant in Massapequa Park and its neighbors are facing off in a battle of the smells.

Mona Rivera reports

The restaurant is contesting four village summonses -- three in the past two months -- issued by the village in response to complaints that a strong BBQ scent is apparently wafting from the establishment.

Neighbors say that the "nauseating" odors are constant and that they smell pork and ribs cooking all day long.

Al Horowitz, Smokin' Al's owner, is now fighting back and suing in the hopes of overturning the village code.

Horowitz says he has spent about $10,000 installing an air filtration system to deal with the smell.
