Four Pit Bulls Found Dead in Woods on Long Island

MANORVILLE, N.Y. (AP)  -- Authorities say four dead pit bulls have been found in the woods on Long Island.

Suffolk County SPCA official Roy Gross says a passing bicyclist found the badly decomposed dogs around 3:30 p.m. Sunday off North Street in Manorville. Gross says the animals were mutilated, and one appeared to have a broken neck.

Gross says two of the pit bulls were male, two female. All were fully grown.

It isn't clear how, when or where the dogs died. Gross says authorities strongly suspect they were killed and may have been dumped in the woods.

The SPCA is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in the case.
