L.I. Man Convicted in Shooting Death of Teen

MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP)  -- A 23-year-old Long Island man faces life in prison after his conviction in a shooting that killed a 17-year-old in a case of mistaken identity.

Dwyane Dailey was convicted Tuesday by a Nassau County jury of murder in the death of Edwin Mejia Alvarado. The teenager was sitting in a car with three friends outside a Westbury nightclub in February 2008 when Dailey and another man opened fire.

Prosecutors say the gunmen erroneously thought the four men were members of a rival street gang.

The three others injured in the shooting survived, but are all permanently disabled.

Prosecutors say Dailey and his alleged accomplice are members of the Bloods gang. The accomplice is awaiting trial.

Dailey will be sentenced Aug. 11.
