NEW YORK (AP) -- Two separate fires Thursday in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx injured 29 people before being brought under control.
Crews were first called to a high-rise fire, at 360 East 137th Street, that injured 11 people -- including six police officers one firefighter and four residents.The blaze apparently began on the 16th floor.
The second fire ignited at an apartment building at 507 138th Street. A total of 18 firefighters were injured while battling the flames, but only two of those injuries were said to be serious.
Officials say the second fire began in the kitchen of a third floor apartment and that about 20 residents were left homeless due to the fire.
