Tanker Spills Chlorine in Nanuet Condo Complex

NANUET, N.Y. (AP)  -- A spill from a tanker carrying 3,500 gallons of chlorine has shut down a street in a suburban New York condominium complex in Nanuet.

Nanuet authorities say the spill occurred about 10 a.m. Friday. No injuries have been reported. So far, no homes have been evacuated but residents were asked to remain indoors until the area is cleaned up.

Fire officials told The Journal News a problem with the truck's hose and connector caused the accident.

They also told the paper some of the chemical ran off into a nearby brook connected to the complex's sewer system.

But officials say recent rain quickly diluted it.

First Street between College Avenue and Middletown Road were temporarily closed to traffic.
