NJ School Finds '69 Class Ring, Owners

BERGENFIELD, NJ (AP)  -- High school sweethearts Thomas and Susan Flannery of Oradell will be reunited with a ring that symbolized their budding romance 40 years ago.

The Flannerys were contacted recently by Bergenfield High School where a custodian had found Thomas' class ring lodged in the metal plates of a girl's gym locker.

Thomas had given the 1969 gold class ring to Susan when they decided to "go steady'' but she misplaced it when she removed her jewelry, as the girls were routinely required to do for gym class.

Custodian Bob Hembree said he had to use a screwdriver to dislodge the ring when he detected it during a routine cleaning.
