Rack 'Em Up! Bike Parking Now Required in New Rochelle
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) -- A New York City suburb now requires bike racks in new buildings.
The regulation applies to any new residential building in New Rochelle that has at least 10 units. It also applies to new commercial buildings.
It requires one bicycle parking space for every 10 motor vehicle spaces.
If developers don't include bike racks, they'll have to pay into a fund to install them elsewhere.
Mayor Noam Bramson says it's one of several steps New Rochelle is taking to become more bicycle friendly. Bramson says the initiative promotes public health and helps the environment.
