Authorities Charge Bronx Clinics with Insurance Fraud

NEW YORK (AP)  -- Authorities have charged the operators of two Bronx medical clinics with bribing hospital workers for patient information as part of a scheme to collect more than $1 million in bogus insurance claims.

The clinic owners are accused of paying staffers at several hospitals for their help finding patients who had been in minor auto accidents.

Investigators say those patients were then persuaded to go to the clinics for months of treatment they didn't need.

Doctors, chiropractors, acupuncturists and two employees at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center are among 12 people facing charges.

Authorities say undercover agents from the attorney general's office and the city's Department of Investigation infiltrated the organization to crack the fraud.
