NEW YORK (1010 WINS)  -- Two off-duty Nassau County Marine Bureau police officers out on a fishing trip Thursday morning sprung into action after hearing a distress call from another boat.

Officers Michael Spagnuolo and Michael Larmony were fishing about 35 miles south of Jones Inlet around 10 a.m. when they heard a mayday call from the vessel "Anger Management," police say.

Spagnuolo, captain of the charter boat "Gina Ann," realized they were only eight miles away from the sinking boat, police say.

The officers said they arrived to see the boat taking on water in the eight foot seas and sinking in chummed shark infested waters.

The officers helped the four shark fishermen off their vessel onto the "Gina Ann."

Police say "Anger Management" sank within two minutes of the officers' arrival on the scene.

The men, from Oceanside and Lindenhurst, ranging in age from 21 to 48, were taken to the Jones Beach Coast Guard Station.
